When I packed up my car, my dog, and my fabulous mom (she told me to add that adjective), and I drove from Texas to Maryland this past summer, all I had was a vision inspired by the Holy Spirit.
One part of my vision was being in front of a live audience of Christian women and empowering them with God’s word, teaching them how to BOLDLY put their faith into action so they can start living beyond their limits.
Well, that vision became a reality!
My mom and I had our first women’s retreat this past weekend, and I have the stress- induced zits on my face to prove it!
One of the recurring themes that we discussed in the retreat was living life on the “cutting edge” of who we are. It was taken from this quote:
“Life is meant to be lived, moment-by-moment, on the cutting edge of who we are. Life is meant to be stretched to its limits, explored to its depths, and experienced as the most delightful adventure God has so far put in front of us…”
– Bruce Biesenthal, Becoming Yourself
Many of us are not living on the cutting edge of life. We aren’t pushing ourselves, not stepping out in our faith in God and all he promises. We aren’t going after those longings in our heart. We are stuck in the rut of safety.
But what many of us don’t realize is the blessings and miracles that are WAITING for us as we grab God by the hand and allow him to take us to our cutting edge!
My mom and I found ourselves on the cutting edge on Saturday, and just like we taught, the blessings on the other side of the edge were even MORE than my mom and I expected.
So here are 6 steps to start living YOUR life on the cutting edge!
1. Have a vision
What is something you long to do or try? What is something that when you imagine doing or becoming xyz you get a sense of exhilaration?
2. Get uncomfortable.
If you question whether or not you can do _______ (you fill in the blank) you are on the cutting edge!
If you are uncomfortable and feel like you are being stretched, where do you seek comfort and reassurance? You seek it in God’s word, in prayer and meditation, and in church. It drives you to the comforting arms of Christ.
When my mom and I pray, we pretty much start off the same way: “God, we aren’t sure we can do this! Is this beyond what we are capable of? We cannot do this on our own and we need your help.”
3. Let go of the need to “have it all figured out” before you start moving.
Don’t stay stuck in the “ready” and “aim” stage.
Faith requires you to acknowledge that you don’t know exactly how things will turn out, but God knows and he PROMISES to give his timely guidance and help. The cutting edge requires you to be in the present moment.
4. Start MOVING!
Ask yourself, “God, what can I do today that will get me one step closer to my vision or goal?”
Take daily steps (send that email, make that phone call, do some online research) and watch in amazement how God ABSOLUTELY provides the right people, right circumstances, or the right information to move you closer to what you envision.
5. Have tenacious faith and keep firing!
Tenacious meaning, “persistent in maintaining, adhering to, or seeking something valued or desired.”
You must carry on in spite of fear, in spite of your doubts AND the doubts of others. Develop TENACIOUS faith that our loving, generous, and powerful God will see you through to victory! (can I get an A-men?)
6. Get excited for the blessings God has prepared for you!
So, while we were nervous and petrified on the day of our retreat, questioning our ability, fighting through the illusion of doubt and fear, we knew we were on the cutting edge and we trusted in God’s steadfast love and guidance. And on the other side of that edge? The blessings!
We received testimonials and valuable feedback to improve our future retreats. One woman who is the co-founder of Sweet Minerals, a company that creates and offers a full line of mineral cosmetics and offers employment for cosmetic consultants, asked us to speak and provide devotionals at their first National Convention in June! Whoa! We didn’t see that one coming. God loves to give bonuses!
So, what about YOU?
What is the cutting edge for you? What small steps can you do TODAY to get you to your vision? What will make you uncomfortable, or what might you need to change about yourself to get those blessings? Do you have tenacious faith in God and his power to take you beyond what you think are your limits?
God is waiting for you to MOVE, so he can DIRECT your path and you can access the gifts that he already has prepared for you. Opportunities and miracles are waiting for you when you are on the cutting edge!
You already have all you need. You already have more access to God than you can handle.– 1 Corinthians 4:7-8
