Maybe it’s because I grew up attending church almost every Sunday and heard what seemed like the same verses. Maybe it’s because my dad is a pastor, so I took for granted the knowledge that was at my fingertips. Or maybe I wasn’t ready to understand yet. But I’m guilty.
Of what am I feeling guilt?
Casually walking away from what God promises me.
Are you in the same boat as me? Why are people casually walking away from God’s promises?
Sometimes we hear the same verses and promises that (dare I say) almost become cliché. The same verses are found on plaques, bumper stickers, knitted on pillows, posted on Facebook, referenced in Christian blogs…etc. We see and hear certain bible verses over and over that we end up casually walking away from them, and as a result, the power of the promise is forgotten.
Sometimes we have a hard time believing the promise God makes to us in his word. The devil likes to make us think we are unworthy of his promises by reminding us of our past sins. He also likes us to doubt the truth of what God is speaking to us through his word, and so we casually….walk away.
Or maybe…we are ignorant to ALL the promises God makes to us. We don’t understand that the promises God made in ancient times are STILL true for our lives today!
Read what the Psalmist says in Psalms 119: 153-160 (MSG)
Take a good look at my trouble, and help me-
I haven’t forgotten your revelation.
Take my side and get me out of this;
Give me back my life, just as you promised…
…My antagonists are too many to count,
but I don’t swerve from your guidelines, revive me.
I took one look at the quitters and was filled with loathing;
They walked away from your promises so casually!
Take note of how I love what you tell me;
Out of your life of love, prolong my life.
Notice what God’s promises do for those who follow how God directs us to live- Give me back my life, revive me, prolong my life.
Do you want your life back?
Well, stop casually walking away from God’s promises! Easier said than done, right?!
One way to help give new life to some cliché promises is to look up scriptures with a Bible that uses a different translation than the one you are used to. At CCWA we often use The Message translation because it uses contemporary language, and it helps us understand promises in a way we never really understood before.
CCWA’s mission is Connecting Christian women to the power in God’s word and the freedom it brings to live a life beyond their imagination. There is so much power that is available to you in God’s promises when you believe them and live your life based on those promises!
We are committed to helping women understand and live God’s promises, and that’s why we hope you will join us on Thursday, September 18th at 8:00 p.m. EST for our FREE training call- Discover 3 Divine Promises that Create a GOD-POWERED Mindset and a CLEAR Vision for the Life YOU want.
