Three years ago I was in bed slowly waking up. I was enjoying the afterglow of a wonderful night’s sleep when the phone rang. Still kind of groggy, I answered the phone when an excited voice from my daughter, Katie, greeted me and promptly said, “I know what I want to do with my life and you’re going to do it with me!” I said, “Okay, what are we doing?”
“You know how God over the past two years has given me the power to change and start living the life I’ve always imagined?”
Yes, I had seen the power of God in her life and witnessed the transformation over the past two years. I watched as God wasn’t just an option but became the director of her life and her life was blossoming. She was active in her church, Bible study, and personal devotions. We would have joyous biblical discussions when we saw how God’s word was just as applicable today as it was when he spoke centuries ago.
“Well, I really felt the Holy Spirit put a call on my heart to share my message and experience with Christian women everywhere. God wants me to help them connect to his power so they can live lives they long for and a life of joy and purpose; a life that matters.”
And that’s when CCWA was born.
Now one year after our launch, there were days when I would wonder if we are in over our heads! Our mission from God was clear, but the delivery system was not clear. All of a sudden we had to be thinking about the how, the who, the what, and the why!
1) How are we going to reach women?
2) How can we get our message out?
3) How do we reach a global audience?
4) How is this going to be funded?
5) How can Katie afford to quit her job of teaching to do this full-time?
Have you ever felt you were in something way over your head?
I know some disciples that felt that way on a mountain in Jerusalem. Jesus had been teaching and preaching and the people were flocking to him. There were over 5,000 rapt listeners hanging on Jesus’ every word when dusk fell that day. It was suppertime so the disciples told Jesus to send them all away to find their own food. Jesus was surprised by their lack of compassion and told them, “You give them something to eat.” I can imagine their shock and then scrambling to figure out the HOW!
1) How can we feed all these people?
2) Where will we find the food?
3) Where will we find the money?
They didn’t know the answers and felt they were in way over their heads.
After only finding five loaves of bread and two fish, they returned to Jesus and announced this is all they could come up with and it’s not enough to feed all 5000.
Jesus said, “Give it to me.” (“Give me your ‘in way over your head’ problem.”) He took the loaves of bread and the fish, gave thanks, broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples. The disciples gave it to the people where they ate their fill and even had 12 baskets of leftovers.
You have everything you need right now to succeed to live the life you have dreamed of; a great job, true love, no financial worries, good health, a purpose driven life, a life that matters. All you have to do is hand over your two fish and five loaves and see what God can do.
Every time Katie and I feel overwhelmed and in way over our heads, we pray, and then we go out and eat a fish sandwich :-).
Here’s to that fish sandwich and all the blessings it brings.
